I have the honour to report that I have
ranted to Lance Dergeant James Hunter of the Hong Kong Folice leave on urgent private affairs as shown in the attached certificate. Satisfactory arrangements have been made for the discharge of this officer's duties
during his absence.
2. It should be explained with reference to the
calculation of leave in the certificate that the new leave regulations recently submitted for your approval have been modified in respect of the Folice Department
to meet the recommendation of the Retrenchment
Comission for an initial tour of duty of five years, an accumulation rate of one day's leave for eight days' resident service being adopted for that tour.
This,
in a case where the officer has served a full tour, will give, with the standard voyage allowance of thirty-five days each way, approximately ten months absence which
was the standard period of the first leave for such officers under the former rules and is one month in
